Don Vos, Hazel Run Road, Hammondsville, reported at 12:09 p.m. Friday he received a phone call from a 646 area code number with the caller telling him he won a $100 Walmart gift certificate. The caller, who spoke good English, then asked him for $4 from his Visa Card.

Sandra E. Morris, 52, Crestview Road, Columbiana, hit a deer on state Route 46 in Unity Township at 10:15 p.m. Thursday. Jerry M. Simchak, 38, West Texas Avenue, Sebring, and Paul E. Jarvis, 56, Bethesda Road, Hanoverton, were both traveling south on Knox School Road in Knox Township at 4:20 p.m. Friday.

In Columbiana County Municipal Court on Tuesday, Jordan T. Wales, 22, Columbia Street, East Palestine, was bound over to the Columbiana County Common Pleas Court grand jury for a charge of possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs. Wales allegedly had the materials and chemicals to create methamphetamine in the trunk of his vehicle on Oct. 26. Anthony M. Hostetter, 21, Deerfield, was fined $700, had his license suspended for 180 days and required to attend a three-day counseling program for OVI first offense and marked lanes.

In Columbiana County Municipal Court, an Oct. 30 preliminary hearing was set for Eric L. Jordan, 36, East Pidgeon Road, Salem, charged with breaking and entering for allegedly taking a bag full of bolts and a bow from the garage of a home on Lisbon Dungannon Road, Lisbon, on Thursday. Sean E. Smith, 53, Monroe Street, Salem, was fined $975, had his license suspended for six months and required to attend a three-day counseling program for OVI first offense.

Dianna Marie Marquis, 25, Randel Road, Hanoverton, was westbound on state Route 39 in Washington Township at 4 p.m. Saturday and slid off the right side into a tree and over a hillside. She was cited for failure to control and taken to East Liverpool hospital with minor injuries.

County Briefing

State Street in Salem will be reopened for the weekend for Saturday and Sunday, but motorists can expect some delays on Pershing Street and possibly Penn Avenue due to the city paving project. City Service/Safety Director Ken Kenst said grinding work will commence on Pershing from Howard to Lincoln, with the base coat applied.
